Continuing professional development (CPD) supports a systematic development of an individual.  The aim is that the continuing search will improve knowledge and skills through exposure to new experiences that benefits both the you and the business.

It is very useful tool to:

  • Demonstrate your professional status to clients, employers and regulators
  • Provide a documented record to illustrate your development to date
  • Uncovers gaps in your skills and capabilities
  • Help uncover your skills and show how far you have progressed
  • Help your career development or a career change

With the uncertainties of Brexit research suggests ‘’that this could herald a shift in the job market towards employees, with the battle between business for the best talent intensifying’’ according Data Quarks, 2018. Therefore, in the decreasing number of skilled workers from aboard may point towards businesses to invest more in training British workers to replace those that leave.  In turn Businesses therefore will need to consider the associated cost required to train their staff and work with external providers to get the skills they need.

In this time of uncertainty, we may see that new opportunities are emerging all the time. Change will give us a chance to stretch our abilities. By staying up to date will  bring confidence and most importantly credibility. CPD is a cycle of continual improvement, by gaining new experiences comes the analysis of what lessons have been learnt and how you can put these in practice. Updating your CPD is of course an investment that will help keep your skills and knowledge up to date and prepare for tackling new challenges that lie ahead.
